The voluntary version of 1-2-3 is a next step for your dog after they have mastered the 1-2-3 pattern. In this version of the 1-2-3 game your dog communicates with you when they want to move forward. Thus, the voluntary version puts the decision for progress forward to either stop or continue in the paws of our pups!
How to Play:
- Count to three but this time place the treat on the ground by the outside of your foot near your dog.
- After your dog eats the treat, when they look back up at you, that is your cue to start counting again 1-2-3, and place the treat on the ground outside your foot.
- Repeat the steps above several times while stationary to establish the pattern.
- Once the pattern is established, add movement. When your dog looks up at you, start walking while counting. When you get to 3 stop and place treat on the ground by your foot. Wait for your dog to look up before you start counting and moving again.
